Step 4:Restart your Mac.

To scan with Image Capture you need an ICA driver. The last package that Canon released that included the MP970 was for OS X 10.8. This may install and function on OS X 10.11 so here is a link to ICA Driver v3.1.0 so you can try it.

As for the printer driver, you need to be careful using a driver created for a different model - mainly due to the ink tank setup. In case you do have any issues here is a link to the last printer driver that Canon released for the MP970, which was also for OS X 10.8 but should install and operate okay on OS X 10.11.
